ABFFE Receives Royalties From Read This!

The American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression (ABFFE) has received an initial royalty check for $4,750 from Coffee House Press on sales of Read This! Handpicked Favorites From America’s Indie Bookstores, which published in September 2012.

Read This! is a compilation of lists of favorite titles from booksellers at independent bookstores across the country.

The project began in 2011 when Hans Weyandt, owner of Micawber’s Books in St. Paul, Minnesota, asked his friends in bookstores across the country to send him lists of their 50 favorite titles to share on the store’s blog and Facebook page. When Coffee House Press approached Weyandt about turning the lists into a book, Weyandt agreed but asked that all royalties be paid to ABFFE.

In addition to bookseller picks, Read This! features a short bio of each participating bookseller and anecdotes relating to their lists or about handselling in general.  

ABFFE is also receiving special royalties from sales of My Bookstore: Writers Celebrate Their Favorite Places to Browse, Read, and Shop, published by Black Dog & Leventhal in November 2012.
