This week, ABA announced the initial sponsors of ABA's Second Annual Winter Institute, to be held on Thursday and Friday, February 1 and 2, 2007, in Portland, Oregon. These companies' sponsorship is underwriting the cost of the Institute, making it affordable for booksellers to attend.

"On behalf of the ABA, it's once again exciting to see the strong response from our Publisher Partners in support of the Winter Institute," said Book Sense Marketing Director Mark Nichols. "We are very grateful for their participation, and look forward to an event that promises to be of great benefit for all concerned, booksellers and publishers alike."

Here is a list of the initial sponsors:

Event Sponsors:
Baker & Taylor
BookExpo America
Ingram Book Company

The Winter Institute will be held at the Doubletree Portland-Lloyd Center, where ABA has negotiated a special rate of $99 per night for attendees. All hotel reservations must be made through ABA. The hotel will not take direct reservations for this event. Booking is through the online form on the ABA site. Event registration, which is being accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, will be capped at 500 booksellers.

Education sessions and special events -- which include most meals -- fill the two-day event, and, so, ABA is encouraging booksellers to arrive in Portland on Wednesday, January 31.

Programming begins at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday with a Welcome Breakfast, followed by the plenary session, "A Whole New Mind," featuring bestselling author Daniel Pink.

The Winter Institute is only open to booksellers from ABA member stores. The event registration deadline is November 15, 2006.

Questions about the Winter Institute program should be addressed to ABA Education Director Len Vlahos. Questions about hotel reservations should be sent to ABA's Margaret Petrie.
