The American Booksellers Association will present the Human Resources Workshop, a new, in-depth education event covering essential aspects of HR for small businesses, in Portland, Oregon, and Providence, Rhode Island, this fall. Registration for both workshops will open to owners and managers of all ABA member stores on Wednesday, July 22.

The workshops will be presented by popular Winter Institute 10 presenter Dr. John Sherlock, the director of the Master of Science HR Program at Western Carolina University. Topics will include recruiting; employee training, development, and performance; the legal side of HR; and the creation of both an HR strategy and action plan.

The first workshop will be presented at the Holiday Inn Portland-Airport in Portland, Oregon, on October 1, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., just prior to the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association trade show.

The second workshop will take place over two days: on Tuesday, October 6, from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and on Wednesday, October 7, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Biltmore Hotel Providence in conjunction with the New England Independent Booksellers Association trade show at the Rhode Island Convention Center.

Workshop registration is separate from PNBA and NEIBA trade show registration. The cost for the workshop is $75 per person and space is limited.

ABA members in the PNBA and NEIBA regions should be on the lookout for more information and a link to workshop registration in an e-mail from ABA on Wednesday, July 22. Details will be available to all ABA members on BookWeb.org and in Bookselling This Week on July 23.
