ABA Governance Review Committee Requests Input

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

The time has once again come for ABA to review whether the practices of the ABA Board and officers are in accordance with the policies and procedures of the association. To that end, the Governance Review Committee -- composed of chair and former ABA Board member Suzy Staubach of UConn Co-op, Catherine Weller of Sam Weller's Books, and Mark LaFramboise of Politics & Prose -- would like to receive member input. Specifically, the committee would like to hear any questions, comments, or suggestions booksellers have regarding the governance of ABA, whether they be about the relationship between the Board and staff or increasing transparency.

The Governance Review Committee (GRC) is charged with ensuring that the relationship between the Board and senior management is functioning according to ABA's organizational design; supervising resolution of any issues where the Board or staff has a conflict of interest; and providing oversight if there is a material question of whether the Board is maintaining fiduciary responsibility.

Questions, comments, or suggestions about ABA governance may be sent to the committee at [email protected]. Comments received will remain confidential to the GRC; however, recommendations will be synthesized (but made anonymous) and shared with the Board.

More information about the role and structure of the GRC as well as previous committee reports are available to members on BookWeb.org.
