ABA Board Approves Committee Appointments

Among the many items of business addressed by the American Booksellers Association's Board of Directors at its July 15 – 18 meeting were appointments to the association's Governance Review and Nominating committees.

Approved by the Board for appointment to the Governance Review Committee were:

  • Catherine Weller of Sam Weller's Books in Salt Lake City, Utah (chair)
  • Former ABA Board member Carla Jimenez of Inkwood Books in Tampa, Florida
  • Dale Szczeblowski of Porter Square Books in Cambridge, Massachusetts

The Governance Review Committee is charged with reviewing the practices of the ABA Board and officers to determine whether they are in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Approved appointment to the Nominating Committee were:

  • ABA Board member Betsy Burton of The King’s English Bookshop in Salt Lake City, Utah (chair)
  • ABA Board member Sarah Bagby of Watermark Books in Wichita, Kansas
  • Former ABA President Richard Howorth of Square Books in Oxford, Mississippi
  • Robert Sindelar of Third Place Books in Lake Forest Park, Washington
  • Paul Yamazaki of City Lights Books in San Francisco

The Nominating Committee is charged, under ABA's bylaws, with presenting director candidates who, following approval by the Board, are placed on the ballot sent to bookstore members in the spring.
