2009 ABA Bookstore Dues Renewal Notices Reflect Discount

ABA bookstore members receiving their 2009 dues renewal notices will notice a prominent directive to deduct 50 percent off their standard membership dues. The 50-percent dues reduction applies to the renewal of bookstore memberships with expiration dates in 2009. The dues reduction was instituted by the ABA Board at its February meeting to help booksellers weather the current economic downturn.

Standard dues, which are based on a store's total company book sales for all locations, can be calculated using the table on the back of the renewal form or an electronic form on BookWeb.org. For 2009 renewals only, bookstore members are then instructed to halve that amount.

If a bookstore has already paid its 2009 dues in full, ABA will issue a refund check for half that amount.

The dues reduction does not apply to late payment of 2008 membership dues. Booksellers who are uncertain about their dues expiration date, and whether an invoice covers the 2008 or 2009 renewal period, should contact ABA's Membership Department at [email protected].
