Book Sense has again compiled a special, year-end Picks Highlights list, featuring a wealth of great reading recommended by independent booksellers. The list of titles contained in the four-page, tabloid-format flier -- which will be arriving at bookstores in the November Red Box -- presents a wide range of Book Sense Picks in fiction and nonfiction from 2006, and offers booksellers a great opportunity to build effective holiday displays.

From Water for Elephants and The Interpretation of Murder to The Brief History of the Dead and One Good Turn in fiction and Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic and Perfect, Once Removed: When Baseball Was All the World to Me in nonfiction, 2006 saw a wide range of great writing selected and recommended by independent booksellers and showcased each month on the Picks lists. The Book Sense 2006 Highlights offers a great opportunity to create a marketing capstone during the gift-giving season.

"Once again, surveys are showing that people want to receive books as a holiday gift. As customers are browsing for their holiday purchases, we hope this compilation of the year's great writing will give stores in the Book Sense program yet another effective tool to help put great books into the hands of appreciative readers," said Book Sense Editor-in-Chief Dan Cullen.

As always, the Book Sense team would love to see photos of store displays, which can become part of the presentations we make to publishers about the program. Photos may be in print or digital format. Digital photos, approximately 3" x 5" and 300 dpi, saved as JPEG or TIFF files, can be e-mailed to Christine Babcock at [email protected]. Multiple pictures may be sent as a stuffed file (.sit). PDF or ZIP files should not be sent, but photos saved on a ZIP disk and mailed to ABA, Attn.: Chris Babcock, 200 White Plains Road, Tarrytown, NY 10591, are acceptable.
