The New Year kicked off in high gear on the e-fairness front, as four states recently introduced sales tax equity legislation. Facing budget shortfalls and a decline in sales tax revenue due to the growth of online shopping, legislators in Colorado, New Mexico, Vermont, and Virginia, have introduced bills that would level the playing field for the collection of sales tax on online sales and ensure the equitable enforcement of existing Internet sales tax laws.

Holiday catalogs from the New England, Northern California, and Southern California independent booksellers associations are now available through Drupal-based ABA IndieCommerce websites.

The catalogs are already installed and ready to go -- all that IndieCommerce sites need to do is link to the appropriate one:

SCIBA Brings Fall Trade Show Season to an End

Last weekend, the Southern California Independent Booksellers Association brought the fall trade show season to an end at the Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. And, despite the economy, SCIBA Executive Director Jennifer Bigelow reported that bookstore and bookseller attendance was up.

The American Booksellers Association looks forward to seeing booksellers at the Southern California Independent Booksellers Association Authors Feast & Trade Show on Saturday, October 24.

The fall trade show season continued last weekend with events hosted by the New England, Great Lakes, and New Atlantic booksellers associations. Each featured an array of engaging educational programming, special authors events, and plenty of networking opportunities. ABA staff was on hand at each to meet with booksellers and to share innovative and timely education sessions on such topics as e-books, ABA IndieCommerce, and social media.

The fall trade show season continued with shows hosted by the Midwest Booksellers Association (MBA), Mountains & Plains Independent Booksellers Association (MPIBA), and Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance (SIBA).

The American Booksellers Association is looking forward to seeing booksellers at next week's trade show hosted by the Northern California Independent Booksellers Association (NCIBA). The show will be held from Thursday, October 8, through Saturday, October 10, at the Oakland Convention Center and City Center Marriott.

Beginning this Sunday, the San Francisco Chronicle's Books section will feature the Northern California Independent Booksellers Association/IndieBound Bestsellers List. The indie list replaces a bestseller list that was compiled by the newspaper itself.

Marketing Association Files Amicus in Support of Amazon E-Fairness Challenge

The Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association Trade Show will be held from Thursday, September 10, through Saturday, September 12, at the Airport Holiday Inn in Portland, Oregon. And ABA CEO Oren Teicher and COO Len Vlahos will be there to present three educational offerings and to meet with booksellers on the trade show floor.
