The Elements of Email: Two Top Editors Highlight the Write Stuff

While April 1, the opening day of the baseball season, is still a few long days away, in the book-publishing world, baseball season began about two to three months ago -- that's when the year's first crop of baseball books began hitting bookstore shelves and ARCs for new releases began to litter my desk and office floor (and I mean "litter" in the best possible sense).
Contrary to the cover letter in the Book Sense White Box mailing for March, the ARC of the forthcoming novel A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini, author of The Kite Runner, will be shipped to stores under separate cover, directly from the publisher, Riverhead Books (Penguin Group USA). The book has an on-sale date of May 22, 2007.
The Road by Cormac McCarthy (Vintage) is the 57th pick of the Oprah Book Club. The announcement was made on the Oprah TV show and via the Oprah website on Wednesday, March 28. 
This week, Scholastic Inc. announced that J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will have a "record-breaking" first printing of 12 million copies in the U.S., as well as a multi-million dollar marketing campaign under the banner "There Will Soon Be 7." The book is scheduled to be released on July 21, at 12:01 a.m.
