On Saturday, July 22, the Southern California Booksellers Association (SCBA) will hold its fourth bookstore tourism event. The "'I Feel the Need to Read' Children's Independent Bookstore Tour" will visit four stores in the Los Angeles area, as well as the Kidspace Children's Museum in Pasadena. SCBA describes the event as an opportunity for children and booklovers of all ages to visit "some of the country's most knowledgeable and inspiring children's bookstores to meet authors, fellow book lovers, and new friends."

Thursday afternoon's sessions for children's booksellers at BookExpo America were sponsored by the Children's Booksellers and Publishers Committee: A cooperative committee of the American Booksellers Association (ABA), the Association of Booksellers for Children (ABC), and the Children's Book Council (CBC)

The deadline for the Summer Children's Picks list is Friday, March 24.

Booksellers who have not yet sent in nominations to the list are strongly encouraged to do so today. Nominations can be e-mailed to [email protected], or they can be submitted via a convenient online nomination form.

Here are the winners of the 2006 John Newbery and Randolph Caldecott medals, along with other award winners and honor books, announced on Monday, January 23, at the 2006 American Library Association Midwinter Meeting in San Antonio.

The list is the result of enthusiastic nominations from independent booksellers nationwide, both children's specialty stores and general independents.

The 86th annual Children's Book Week, sponsored by the Children's Book Council (CBC), will be celebrated this year from November 14 to November 20. CBC, the nonprofit trade association of publishers and packagers of books and materials for children and young adults, holds the annual event to celebrate the written word and to introduce young people to new authors and ideas in schools, bookstores, libraries, and homes.

BookExpo America is inviting the book industry to submit proposals for BEA 2006 Special Events and Education Programs, which will be held from Thursday, May 18, through Sunday, May 21, 2006, at the Washington, D.C., Convention Center.

The business of children's bookselling, award-winning authors and booksellers, and the best of publishers' children's lists were all part of Thursday's and Friday's program at this year's BookExpo America.

The new title, to be published in September 2005, will feature more than 200 "favorite book" recommendations from independent booksellers with Book Sense.

Looking to better represent the nature of children's bookselling and publishing, Book Sense has revamped its Children's Bestsellers List by breaking out bestsellers into three categories: "Children's Interest," "Illustrated," and "Series Fiction."

This week, BTW shines a spotlight on Thursday, June 2, programming at this year's BookExpo America (BEA) for children's booksellers, for African-American booksellers, and for college stores. BEA will be held from June 2 - 5, at New York City's Jacob Javits Convention Center.
