This August, TJ Rayhill, a 19-year-old college student, will open Dog-Eared Books in Campbellsville, Kentucky. The used bookstore also sells new books online and offers an online college textbook rental service.

 A crowd of thousands is expected at the first annual Mississippi Book Festival, which is scheduled for August 22 at the State Capitol in Jackson. Indie booksellers are looking forward to promoting new and established authors, as well as the state’s great literary tradition.

This month, Thomas G. Roberts and Joseph J. Justin, co-owners of Ye Olde Warwick Book Shoppe in Warwick, New York, will open a branch in Greenwood Lake, New York.

The Ol’ Curiosities & Book Shoppe in Monroeville, Alabama, has been preparing for the July 14 release of Harper Lee’s Go Set a Watchman for months. Since February, the To Kill a Mockingbird author’s hometown bookstore has pre-sold 1,000 more copies of the new book than the town has residents.

The New Atlantic Independent Booksellers Association is challenging booksellers to visit other bookstores around the country to share experiences and make connections with their peers.
