Bookstores Create Posters to Celebrate Inclusion in IBF Calendar

To celebrate their inclusion in the International Booksellers Federation's (IBF) much-anticipated 2007 "50 Unique Bookshops" Calendar, both the University Book Store in Mill Creek, Washington, and Titcomb's Book Shop in East Sandwich, Massachusetts, created posters featuring their own and the other winning bookstores.

Charis Books Changes Color and Ownership Team

Charis Books & More, the 32-year-old feminist bookstore in Atlanta, Georgia, has announced a new ownership team, along with improvements to the store's physical appearance, including a new color for the building. Sara Look, a co-owner and book buyer for 12 years; Angela Gabriel, a part-time staff member for many years; and Amanda Hill comprise the new ownership team.

Fifth Annual West Hollywood Book Fair

The City of West Hollywood and L.A. Weekly will present the Fifth Annual West Hollywood Book Fair, which will take place on Sunday, September 17, 2006, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at West Hollywood Park in West Hollywood. Participating bookstores include Bodhi Tree, Book Soup, Dark Delicacies, Eso Won Books, J. Paul Getty Museum Store, Mysterious Galaxy, Skylight Books, and Distant Lands.

The 2006 Man Booker Prize for Fiction Shortlist Announced

Kiran Desai, Kate Grenville, M.J. Hyland, Hisham Matar, Edward St Aubyn, and Sarah Waters are the six authors shortlisted for the U.K.'s 2006 Man Booker Prize for Fiction. The shortlist was announced by the chair of judges, Hermione Lee, at a press conference in London on Thursday, September 14. The winner will be announced on October 10 at an awards ceremony at the Guildhall, London.
