Griffin Poetry Prize Announces Shortlist Reading

On April 18, the Griffin Trust for Excellence in Poetry announced that a reading will be held for poets on the Canadian and International shortlist for this year's prize on Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. at the MacMillan Theatre in Toronto. The C$100,000 Griffin Poetry Prize is awarded annually for the two best books of poetry, including translations, published in English in the previous year.

SCIBA/ABA Spring Meeting 'Very Informative'

On Tuesday, April 17, the American Booksellers Association held an education program and ABA Booksellers Forum & Strategic Planning Session in conjunction with the Southern California Independent Booksellers Association (SCIBA)'s Spring Meeting at the Renaissance Long Beach Hotel in Long Beach, California. The free program was facilitated by ABA CEO Avin Mark Domnitz and COO Oren Teicher.

Carmichael's Bookstore Poised to Turn Thirty

Carmichael's Bookstore in Louisville, Kentucky, has been a partnership of Carol Besse and Michael Boggs since they founded it 29 years ago. The two are joined in matrimony and their names are linked to create the bookstore's name -- Car(ol) + Michael. Before they started Carmichael's, the couple worked together at Barbara's Bookstore in Chicago.
