Givex, Book Sense's partner in gift card processing, is migrating the current store administrative website to a more secure portal website. The new portal will add an extra level of security to the program's administration and transaction processing. Book Sense is also moving its gift card program fulfillment services to a company in the U.S. that will expedite card and presenter delivery times.

Making Information Pay 2007

On May 10, in New York City, the Book Industry Study Group, Inc. (BISG) will be holding its fourth annual Making Information Pay Conference. The half-day conference aims to provide practical guidance on how to evaluate and exploit technologies throughout the book industry's increasingly digital supply chain. VISTA International is sponsoring the event, with breakfast provided by Nielsen BookScan.

Bookstore Sales Continue Slide

Retail sales at bookstores in February 2007 were down as compared to the previous February, according to preliminary estimates recently released by the Bureau of the Census. In addition, the Bureau adjusted both January 2006 and January 2007 figures upward, but the end result was that bookstore sales decreased by 1.4 percent this past January.

February 2007 bookstore sales of $1,012 million were lower than the previous February by 6.5 percent. This was the eighth month in a row that book sales failed to keep pace with the previous years' results.
