2014 National Book Award Winners Announced

The winners of the 2014 National Book Awards were announced on Wednesday night, November 19, at the 65th National Book Awards Ceremony and Benefit Dinner in New York City. The event was hosted by novelist and award-winning children’s book author Daniel Handler.

This year’s winners are:

FICTION

NONFICTION

  • Evan Osnos, Age of Ambition: Chasing Fortune, Truth, and Faith in the New China (Farrar, Straus and Giroux)

POETRY

  • Louise Glück, Faithful and Virtuous Night (Farrar, Straus and Giroux)

YOUNG PEOPLE’S LITERATURE

Also honored were:

Ursula K. Le Guin, the recipient of the National Book Foundation’s 2014 Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters, in recognition of her transformative impact on American literature; and,

First Book founder Kyle Zimmer, who received the Literarian Award for Outstanding Service to the American Literary Community, for her outstanding leadership and achievements in overcoming childhood illiteracy and promoting educational equality.
