Barbara Meade and Carla Cohen, owners of Washington, D.C.'s, Politics & Prose, have announced that they are putting the 26-year-old store up for sale.

According to the Washington Post, which broke the story, Meade and Cohen, both 74, “say they are simply too tired” to continue operating the store. "It's time for us to stop and let somebody else take over for the future," the Post quotes Meade as saying.

The Post article also makes it clear that the decision to sell was unrelated to the store's financial condition, which is strong, and quotes several industry professionals who see a vibrant future for independent bookstores, like Politics & Prose, that are deeply connected to their communities.
