Pocket Books to Launch New Oversized, Premium Editions in July

On February 28, Pocket Books announced a new program of oversized Premium Editions that would feature the imprint's bestselling authors in larger, high quality, easy-to-read volumes "designed to bridge the gap between traditional mass and trade paperback formats."

The new Premium Editions will be priced at $9.95 and have a 4 1/8" x 7 1/2" trim size. In addition, they will feature "brighter, higher quality paper and larger type, offering a more attractive page layout and making them easier for the consumer to read."

The company also plans to let readers offer feedback on the new format paperback through online surveys conducted at its website, http://www.simonsays.com.


Multiple Sclerosis Society Names Best Self-Improvement Books

This week, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society announced the recipients of the "Books for a Better Life Awards" at a benefit at the Millennium Hotel in Manhattan. Books for a Better Life honors the best self-improvement books of the preceding year and raises awareness and funds for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

This year, 40 finalists in eight categories were selected from over 300 books by a distinguished panel of experts in categories that include inspirational memoir, motivational, psychology, relationships, spiritual, wellness, the Suze Orman first book, and new this year -- childhood/parenting. From these finalists, the winner in each area was chosen by secret ballot by three expert judges per category. The list of this year's winners is available on the National Multiple Sclerosis Society website.


Audie Finalists Announced

On June 3, members of the Audio Publishers Association (APA) will gather to roll out the red carpet and announce winners in 31 audio publishing categories during The Audies at the Tavern on the Green restaurant in New York City.

The event, held in conjunction with BookExpo America, will honor excellence in audio publishing including Audiobook of the Year. The Audies will also honor titles in two new categories this year: Literary Fiction and Romance, as well as with the special Judges Award for Language Learning titles. A list of the 2005 finalists is posted on the APA website.
