On Friday, May 6, the Children’s Book Council and Every Child a Reader announced the winners of the 2016 Children’s Choice Book Awards, a highlight of the annual celebration of Children’s Book Week.

Space at next month’s ABC Children’s Institute is now limited. Registration will close on Friday, May 20, or once the institute reaches capacity, whichever comes first.

Award-winning author Julia Alvarez will close next month’s Children’s Institute with a talk about her unlikely path to becoming a passionate reader and writer and how stories can shape the lives of children.

Children’s Book Week display contest entries must be submitted to ABC Children’s Group Manager Matthew Zoni by May 6.

Thanks to the generosity of lead sponsor Baker & Taylor, 38 publisher sponsors, and the Book Industry Charitable Foundation, 53 ABA member booksellers will be attending this June’s ABC Children’s Institute on scholarship.

The ABC Children’s Group at ABA, which is dedicated to expanding the reach of children’s books, is a useful tool that all ABA member booksellers are invited to take advantage of. 

Booksellers are invited to enter this year’s Children’s Book Week display contest by mounting in-store or window displays celebrating children’s books and reading from April 30 through May 8.

All registrants for the ABC Children’s Institute in June should be thinking about a favorite children’s book to share with colleagues at the Welcome Reception and Backlist Book Swap Party on opening night.

Dave Barry, the Pulitzer Prize-winning humorist, newspaper columnist, and author of more than two dozen books for children and adults, will be a keynote speaker at ABA’s fourth ABC Children’s Institute.

Ballots for the ninth annual Children’s & Teen Choice Book Awards must be submitted by Monday, April 25. The Children’s Book Week display contest, which kicks off April 30, will earn the winning bookstore a visit from one of the award winners or finalists.

The ABC Children’s Group at ABA is encouraging booksellers at all ABA member stores to submit title recommendations for the 2016 ABC Best Books for Young Readers Catalog.

Award-winning author Kate DiCamillo will present the opening keynote “Owning the Power of Stories, Harnessing the Power of Connection” at the ABC Children’s Institute in June. Here, DiCamillo talks about the influence of books and bookstores throughout her life.
