Latino Books Month Reading Lists, Kit Available

To help bookstores and libraries mark May is Latino Books Month, the Association of American Publishers' Publishing Latino Voices for America (PLVA) Task Force has teamed with the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and others to present a recommended reading list of children's books intended to foster "bookjoy" and to encourage families to read together. The list includes titles in English and in Spanish as well as bilingual titles, nonfiction, picture books, and novels, all celebrating Latino culture and Latin American identity.

HarperCollins Vice President for Independent Retailing Carl Lennertz has pulled together a second collection of regional essays inspired by State by State: A Panoramic Portrait of America (edited by Matt Weiland and Sean Wilsey, Ecco). Booksellers and librarians from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Alaska contributed to the Pacific Northwest Reader, which is available now. The first regional collection, the Great Lakes Reader, was published last year.

Announcing the 2010 Indies Choice Book Award Winners!

The American Booksellers Association today announces the winners of the 2010 Indies Choice Book Awards, reflecting the spirit of independent bookstores nationwide and the IndieBound movement.

This year's winners were chosen by the owners and staff at ABA member stores nationwide in more than four weeks of voting. Book of the Year winners and Honor Award recipients are all titles appearing on the 2009 Indie Next Lists.
