Indies Meet the Holidays Head-On With Shop Local Promos, Regional Handsells & More

Independent booksellers across the country are using an array of Shop Local promotions, social media outlets, holiday catalogs, IndieBound marketing materials, and unique handsells to face another challenging holiday retail season. And, though the Black Friday weekend often draws shoppers from Main Street to big box stores and malls, booksellers who spoke to BTW this week were generally pleased with their November sales and optimistic about the weeks to come.

Jersey Bookseller Plans Happy 75th Anniversary

Anne Laird, the sixth owner of The Town Book Store in Westfield, New Jersey, will be hosting a month-long celebration featuring raffles, giveaways, and author signings, this November to mark the store's 75th anniversary and to thank the community for its continuing support. Laird bought the bookstore in 2007 to save it.

More than 500 people attended the grand reopening of Literary Bookpost in Salisbury, North Carolina, on Friday, October 23. The store, founded by Deal Safrit in 1998, moved across Main Street to a completely remodeled storefront that more than doubled its size.
