Two Promotions in ABA's Information Department

ABA announced this week two promotions within its Information Department.

Rosemary Hawkins, senior editor for print & digital media, will be assuming new responsibilities as the department's executive editor. In addition, David Grogan, currently the department's associate editor, has become the department's senior editor.

A Successful Time in Santa Fe at Booksellers Forum and MPBA Spring Meeting

On Friday, March 14, booksellers from five states attended an ABA/MPBA Booksellers Forum that was held at the Mountain and Plains Booksellers Association (MPBA) Spring Meeting and Regional Book Awards Celebration. The event took place in Santa Fe, New Mexico, at the Radisson Santa Fe, and was part of a full program for booksellers that ran from Friday to Sunday, March 16.

Bookstore Sales Pick Up in January

January 2003 retail sales for bookstores showed signs of life after three months of decline. January bookstore sales of $2,253 million improved 3.0 percent over the $2,188 million of January 2002.

Overall retail sales of $280 billion for January 2003 was 5.7 percent better than the $265 billion of the previous year.

January is the 12th month in a row in which bookstore sales failed to keep pace with overall retail sales.
