Will 2007 Be Your Bookstore Computer System's Y2K?

While it might not be as well-publicized as "Y2K," a potentially very serious computer systems problem looms on the horizon for some book retailers: In the near future, the book community will run out of unique 10-digit ISBNs, and, to ward off the possible repetition of ISBN numbers, there is a transition currently underway from a 10-digit ISBN to an ISBN- or EAN-13 identifier.

MSIBA Looks to Merge With Other Regionals

This week is proving to be a significant one for the Mid-South Independent Booksellers Association (MSIBA): In a February 8 letter sent to its bookstore and publishing members, MSIBA announced that it was actively seeking a merger with the Mountain & Plains Booksellers Association (MPBA) and the Southeast Booksellers Association (SEBA) and that, "due to family needs and obligations," Susan Kent would be resigning as MSIBA's executive director.

19 Days Left to Vote!

ABA is asking all owners and staff of member bookstores to cast their votes for the 2005 Book Sense Book of the Year Awards. All ABA member stores are eligible to participate, and every employee has a vote, but all ballots must be received by midnight on February 28.

Ballots may be cast through an online form or via a downloadable PDF, which may be mailed or faxed to ABA.
