Book Sense Best Children's Books: Favorites for All Ages Recommended by Independent Booksellers -- a collaboration of Newmarket Press and ABA's Book Sense marketing program -- is shipping September 21. The new title, which builds on the success of Book Sense Best Books: 125 Favorite Books Recommended by Independent Booksellers, published by Newmarket in 2004, features 240 favorite children's book recommendations from independent booksellers with Book Sense.

Chapters to Reorganize as Nonprofit

At yesterday's 20th anniversary celebration of Chapters, A Literary Bookstore in Washington, D.C., co-owners Terri Merz and Steve Moyer announced plans that would turn the store into a nonprofit entity. Their plans call for the store to be sold to the nonprofit foundation, Wordfest, which they originally created to fund the D.C. International Poetry Festival. According to the Washington Post, Merz stated that Wordfest would need to raise approximately $80,000 to cover the store's current debts and future operating expenses.

Quills Voting Ends Today

Booksellers should note that the voting period for the inaugural Quill Awards ends today, September 15. However, there are still a few days left for ABA member booksellers who have been encouraging consumers to vote to participate in a random drawing to win a trip to the red carpet awards ceremony to be held in October in New York City.
