As a result of the outcry from free speech advocates and civil liberties groups, on Friday, November 18, Congress postponed a vote on the draft USA Patriot Act conference committee report until after the Thanksgiving recess.
This has been a busy few weeks for the Book Sense Picks program. Booksellers should have received the year-end Book Sense Picks list of the year's highlights, and the 2005 - 2006 Winter Children's Book Sense Picks list should be arriving at stores this week. In addition, the January Book Sense Picks list will be shipping to bookstores in the Book Sense program in the December Red Box. 
As booksellers enter, what is for most, their busiest season, the American Booksellers Association wants to draw their attention to the rapidly decreasing number of rooms available at Hotel ABA at BookExpo America 2006 in Washington, D.C.
