A New HarperCollins Mystery

Early this month, HarperCollins announced to booksellers via mass e-mail that it would soon release a book that "will make headlines around the world," but it kept the title and author a secret. The e-mail offered most of the bibliographic information -- the ISBN, page number, and release date, but included nothing that could divulge the title.

Starbucks to Add Books to the Mix

On August 8, Starbucks announced that the next phase of its "overall entertainment initiative" would be integrating books into its entertainment offerings. The nationwide promotion will begin on October 3, 2006, with the sale of Mitch Albom's upcoming novel, For One More Day (Hyperion). Starbucks Entertainment president Ken Lombard told the Associated Press that For One More Day will be sold at full price and that Starbucks has no plans for a major expansion of books or other entertainment offerings.

IBF Now Accepting Orders for Calendars & More

The International Booksellers Federation (IBF), a non-governmental organization of booksellers associations and booksellers from around the world, is offering a variety of products in celebration of its 50th anniversary. These include IBF's much-anticipated 2007 50 Unique Bookshops Calendar and T-shirts, bags, caps, and bookmarks all featuring the saying, "I [image of a heart] My Bookshop."

Quills Nominating Deadline August 15

Only five days remain for booksellers and librarians on the Quills Nominating Board to cast their votes for the 2006 Quill Book Awards. The voting period ends at 11:59 EST on August 15.

The Quills Nominating Board is selecting five titles in 19 categories that will be presented to consumers for voting, beginning Tuesday, August 22.
