A Welcome Port for Book Lovers in the Northwest

First Street in Port Angeles, on Washington's Olympic Peninsula, is a long way from Leslie Street in Newark, New Jersey, but Alan Turner, co-owner of Port Book and News, and author Philip Roth share a connection to both. Turner grew up in the same Newark house once occupied by Roth and his family, and he now keeps Roth's many titles in stock, along with about 75,000 other new and used books, in his 20-year-old community bookstore.

PowerHouse Announces Partnership With Perseus

On September 19, PowerHouse Books announced that it is signing with Perseus Book Group/CDS for trade book fulfillment of both its titles and those of its in-house imprint titles and distributed lines, and for the creation of a development partnership for future projects. Fulfillment to the trade will be effective January 1, 2007, and sales representation will continue through Continental Sales.

Teen Read Week Urges 'Get Active @ Your Library'

From October 15 to 21, libraries, schools, and bookstores across America will celebrate Teen Read Week, now in its ninth year. A national literacy initiative aimed at teens, their parents, librarians, educators, booksellers, and other concerned adults, Teen Read Week is sponsored by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA).

BookExpo America Calls for Speakers for 2007

BookExpo America (BEA) has issued an invitation to the book industry to submit proposals regarding authors and other speakers to participate in special events and education programs at next year's show. BookExpo America 2007 will be held at New York City's Jacob Javits Convention Center from Friday, June 1, through Sunday, June 3.
