ABFFE Welcomes Three New Board Members

The American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression (ABFFE) recently welcomed three new members to its board of directors: ABA Vice President Gayle Shanks of Changing Hands Bookstore in Tempe, Arizona; Jack Buckley of Ninth Street Book Shop in Wilmington, Delaware; and Cecile Fehsenfeld of Schuler Books & Music in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

September Bookstore Sales Down Slightly

Retail sales at bookstores in September were nearly on a par with the previous September, according to estimates recently released by the Bureau of the Census.

September 2006 bookstore sales were down just 0.9 percent from September 2005. However, it was the third month in a row that bookstore sales failed to equal or exceed last year's results. Year-to-date sales are 1.6 percent below 2005.

Overall retail sales of $352 billion for September 2006 are 4.5 percent above the $337 billion of September 2005.

BEA to Las Vegas in 2010

BookExpo America show organizers have announced that the 2010 trade show will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, on June 10 - 13. This will be the first time that the show has been in Las Vegas since 1990.
