PW Seeks Nominations for Bookseller & Rep of the Year

Publishers Weekly is seeking nominations for its Bookseller and Sales Rep of the Year Awards to be presented in June at BookExpo America in New York City.

Nominees for Bookseller of the Year must operate a professional storefront retail bookstore in the U.S. and should excel in buying and vendor relations, marketing, handselling, customer care, community involvement, management-employee relations, merchandising, and business operations. Nominations for Bookseller of the Year are due by midnight on January 29.

Authors Hope Publishing Panel Will Bring Attention to Bookstores

Next week, a group of self-published North Carolina writers will hold a "Getting Published" panel discussion at McIntyre's Fine Books & Bookends in Pittsboro, North Carolina. Author Stacey Cochran, panel organizer and moderator, hopes the January 20 event will be the first of many at independent bookstores.

Lavender Inkwell Fills Niche in Syracuse Neighborhood

In October, central New York State became home to a new bookstore with a gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender (GLBT) focus, when The Lavender Inkwell Bookshoppe opened in Syracuse. Co-owners Scott Henni and John Besaw started the barely 700-square-foot store because they felt a need for one, especially in the city's Near Northeast historic district.

Starbucks to Sell Second Book

Starbucks has announced that it will soon begin selling A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by first-time author Ishmael Beah (FSG) at its U.S. company-operated locations. The first book Starbucks offered was Mitch Albom's For One More Day (Hyperion), which sold nearly 100,000 copies at the coffeehouses.
