A Tiger Is Born

"My family owned a newspaper, The Westerly Sun, so I grew up around bookish, writingish people," said Katie Utter of Other Tiger Bookstore in Westerly, Rhode Island, about her motivation to open the now two-month-old bookstore. The History Channel® JFK Promo Unites Bookstores and Libraries

As part of its commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy this November, The History Channel has distributed a special JFK informational kit to 17,000 public and college libraries around the country. Featured in the kit is the Book Sense 76 JFK Top Ten list along with a JFK counter easel display with bookmarks promoting the channel's special JFK Week programming airing on November 14, 16 - 22 at 8:00 p.m.

Tumultuous Times for eBook Industry

The past few months have turned out to be quite volatile for the eBook industry. In June, Gemstar-TV Guide International decided to drop out of the eBook business. This was followed by PalmGear's acquisition of Palm Digital Media, which produces eBook reading software and is an eBook supplier, and, then, Barnesandnoble.com dropped a bombshell in September when it announced that it would no longer carry eBooks.
