Voting opened on March 3 for the 10th annual Children’s & Teen Choice Book Awards, the national book awards program in which the winners are selected by children and teens of all ages.

Marley Dias, the 12-year-old social activist who launched the #1000BlackGirlBooks campaign, and Ilsa Govan, the founder of Cultures Connecting, have been added to the Children’s Institute lineup.

Just a few spots remain for booksellers looking to attend the 2017 ABC Children’s Institute. The event, to be held April 5–7 in Portland, Oregon, is open to all ABA member booksellers. 

Booksellers can sign up now and submit topics they wish to discuss at the April 7 Children’s Institute Advanced Education Session, “Idea Exchange for Owners and Managers.”

Thanks to the generosity of lead sponsor Baker & Taylor, 32 publisher sponsors, and the Book Industry Charitable Foundation, 47 booksellers will be attending Children’s Institute on scholarship.

Janet Webster Jones has grown Source Booksellers from a simple vendor table at area markets in 1989 into a beloved Detroit neighborhood institution with a strong focus on nonfiction books. 

At Wi12, bookseller panelists shared best practices for categorizing and shelving middle grade and young adult graphic novels, as well as how to sell the genre to parents, teachers, and young readers.

Booksellers have until March 1 to register to serve as an official event location for the 98th annual Children’s Book Week, which will take place May 1–7.

All registrants for the ABC Children’s Institute should plan to bring a favorite children’s book to share with colleagues at the April 5 Welcome Reception and Backlist Book Swap at Powell’s Books.

Children’s Institute registrants in need of a hotel room can add their names to a waitlist or make reservations with a nearby hotel.

Author Philip Stead and illustrator Erin Stead will discuss their newest project, The Purloining of Prince Oleomargarine, a children’s story by Mark Twain, during a featured talk at Children’s Institute.
