Booksellers looking to attend the 2017 ABC Children’s Institute (Ci5) in Portland, Oregon, are encouraged to register as soon as possible, as the institute is nearing capacity.

The event, which will be held April 5–7 at the Red Lion Hotel on the River – Jantzen Beach, is open to all bookseller members of the American Booksellers Association, with a maximum of five registrants per member business. The conference fee is $99 per person.

Children’s Institute kicks off the evening of Wednesday, April 5, with a Welcome Reception and Backlist Book Swap Party at Powell’s City of Books in downtown Portland. Booksellers, publishers, and authors can sign up now to take full-day and half-day tours of Portland-area bookstores ahead of the Welcome Reception.

Two full days of programming, on April 6 and 7, include three keynote and three featured talks, 10 education sessions, five roundtable discussions, and, for the first time at Children’s Institute, Bookseller/Publisher Focus Groups. Other events in the program include the Author Reception, Rep Picks Speed Dating, Small Press Lunch, Scholastic Meet & Treat Party, and Young Professionals Afterparty.

Booksellers will also have the opportunity to pick up advance reader copies of upcoming titles in the Galley Room, meet with representatives from ABA’s affiliated business solution partners and others at the Consultation Station, and schedule one-on-one appointments with the IndieCommerce team.

See the complete Ci5 program here. Children’s Institute 2017 is made possible by the support of lead sponsor Baker & Taylor with additional support from publisher sponsors large and small.

ABA’s room blocks at the Red Lion Hotel on the River and the Oxford Suites Portland are sold out. Registrants needing a hotel room should add their names to the institute’s hotel waitlist to be notified on a first come, first served basis if rooms become available or they can make reservations with a nearby hotel. Questions about hotel accommodations can be directed to ABA Meetings & Planning Officer Jill Perlstein. Visit the Ci5 Hotel & Travel page to learn more.

Booksellers can cancel their reservations at the Red Lion Hotel or the Oxford Suites by e-mailing [email protected]; ABA will reassign the room to a waiting bookseller. Booksellers may cancel their Children’s Institute registration at any time by e-mailing [email protected]. Cancellations received on or after March 1 are not eligible for refund.
