As the COVID-19 crisis continues to impact booksellers, many people are reaching out to help. Here are two new fundraisers aimed at benefiting the Book Industry Charitable Foundation (Binc), the booksellers’ safety net.

An Unlikely Story Online Auction Fundraiser

An Unlikely Story Bookstore and Cafe in Plainville, Massachusetts, launched an online auction, running from May 8 to May 15, to raise funds for Binc for bookstores experiencing unexpected financial emergencies. Because of COVID-19, Binc has received an unprecedented number of requests for aid.

One hundred percent of the money raised from the auction items will be donated to Binc. Auction items include signed books, original artwork, bookish accessories, virtual visits from authors and illustrators, and more. Tangible auction items will be shipped only in the U.S. and at no charge to the bidder. See what’s up for auction now.

Book Industry Study Group Plans Bookish (Online) Trivia Fundraiser

The Book Industry Study Group (BISG) has announced plans for an online trivia event to be held via video conference at 7:00 p.m. ET on May 21, 2020, with all proceeds to benefit Binc and its work to support booksellers facing hardship caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Open to BISG members and non-members, and featuring trivia questions about books, authors, and publishing, the hour-long online event will be held via Zoom and administered by CourseHorse, a New York City-based events platform.

In order to maximize the impact of the Bookish (Online) Trivia Fundraiser, BISG is matching all funds raised, dollar for dollar. Registration for the Bookish (Online) Trivia event requires a minimum $5 donation. For more information, visit bisg.org.
