Two Indies First Press Release Templates Now Available on BookWeb.org

Two press release templates are among the trove of marketing materials the American Booksellers Association has created for this year’s Indies First on Small Business Saturday: one to help booksellers promote the event, and the other to help inform customers they will be giving away books as part of the “Indie Bookstores Give Back on Small Business Saturday” (#IndiesGiveBack) campaign. 

Indies First logoThese press releases, designed to spread the word about this year’s November 24 shop-local celebration and related giveaway of Jason Reynolds’ Ghost, are currently available on BookWeb.org in the Marketing Assets section, located within the For Booksellers menu block.

Marketing resources are also now available from American Express for Small Business Saturday, which the company first held in 2010. These customizable materials, which are free to download from the AmEx website’s Shop Small Studio, include posters, e-mail templates, and more. Booksellers can also find ready-to-download Spanish-language marketing materials to help connect them with Spanish-speaking customers, either in-store or on social media, prior to the day.

Other Indies First marketing materials from ABA are on BookWeb.org, including web banners, logos, and images sized and formatted for Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. ABA’s marketing team is also offering new social media images in support of the #IndiesGiveBack book giveaway, which Reynolds will kick off at the 2018 Miami Book Fair.

Various other marketing materials for Indies First and for Small Business Saturday are in the forthcoming November Red Box, including “Shop Small” bookmarks from American Express; an Indies First/#IndiesGiveBack poster featuring Ghost; and a window cling and “Shop Small” buttons from Penguin.

In addition to using these marketing materials, ABA member booksellers can follow the Small Business Saturday movement using the hashtags #ShopSmall and #SmallBizSat, and follow the Indies First movement using the hashtags #IndiesFirst and #IndiesGiveBack.

Members are also encouraged to take advantage of publishers’ special terms for Indies First. Members will need a username and password to access the spreadsheet of offers from the ABA Book Buyer’s Handbook or the Indies First homepage; e-mail [email protected] for login information.
