Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

The Spring 2007 Book Sense Children's Picks, offering great titles for babies and pre-schoolers, young children, and teens, as well as great reading group suggestions, is now available for preview.

Independent bookstores with Book Sense will receive this list with the first quarterly Children's-specific White Box mailing, to be sent to stores by the end of this month.

Subsequent Children's White Boxes, with Book Sense Children's Picks lists, will be shipped to stores in May, August, and November. The Children's White Boxes, which supplement the current monthly Red and White Box programs, are targeted to more closely meet the needs of booksellers specializing in children's books or general bookstores with active children's sections.

Additional copies of this Picks list may be requested via e-mail to [email protected].

This new kids' list is the result of the enthusiastic participation of independent booksellers nationwide, and the Book Sense team extends many thanks to all who nominated titles.

Looking ahead, the deadline for the Book Sense Poetry Top Ten List Picks list is Friday, February 9, and the deadline for the May Book Sense Picks list is Friday, March 2.

Nominations may be sent in an e-mail, including just a few sentences about the title, to [email protected] or via a convenient Web form.

In addition, a flier and shelf-talkers are available for the February Book Sense Notable titles in PDF format on BookWeb.org. The featured titles range from such fiction titles as A Far Country by Daniel Mason (Knopf) and Mothers and Sons by Colm Toibin (Scribner) to such nonfiction titles as A Perfect Mess: The Hidden Benefits of Disorder -- How Crammed Closets, Cluttered Offices, and On-the-Fly Planning Make the World a Better Place by Eric Abrahamson and David H. Freedman (Little, Brown) and Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace ... One School at a Time, by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin (Penguin).

As ABA works to compile a showcase of Book Sense-related images, booksellers are encouraged to send in photos of their displays featuring selections from this Picks list. These images are a great addition to the presentations Book Sense makes to publishers about the program. Photos may be in print or digital format. Digital photos, approximately 3" x 5" and 300 dpi, saved as JPEG or TIFF files, should be e-mailed to Christine Babcock at [email protected]. Multiple pictures may be sent as a stuffed file (.sit). PDF or ZIP files should not be sent, but photos saved on a ZIP disk are acceptable.
