Shipping News: Yellow Transportation Raises Rates

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

This week, Yellow Transportation announced a general rate increase on freight shipments in the U.S. and Canada of approximately 3.9 percent. The company said the increase -- "the smallest rate increase in the industry" -- became necessary due to higher costs for insurance, workers' compensation, and expenses uniquely associated with the shipping industry, such as highway tolls and cargo security.

To help counter the increases, ABA members can sign up for the ABA Discount Shipping Program, managed by PartnerShip. There's no charge to sign up and use the program, and members save up to 64 percent on Yellow Transportation and UPS Freight shipments.

In addition, ABA Discount Shipping Program participants save up to 30 percent per carton on FedEx Ground shipments and up to 26 percent on FedEx Express shipments. Enrollees also receive a discount card for savings on printing, copying, and finishing services at FedEx Kinko's.
