#SaveIndieBookstores Raises $564,510 in First Week
Kicking off with author James Patterson’s personal donation of $500,000, the #SaveIndieBookstores campaign, which launched on April 2, has received an outpouring of support over the past week, raising a total of $564,510 so far, including a matching gift that will be announced on Thursday, April 9. The campaign continues through April 30.
Booksellers are encouraged to visit the media kit at SaveIndieBookstores.com to see press coverage and access a variety of digital assets to promote the campaign, including logos and social media images. Booksellers can also find reading-themed social media images in the Marketing Assets section of BookWeb.
Booksellers who would like to share their story with ABA and be featured among fellow booksellers encouraging campaign contributions can send an email to [email protected].
To be considered for a grant, ABA member bookstores can visit SaveIndieBookstores.com to fill out a short application beginning April 10 and continuing through April 27. Funds will be distributed to eligible stores by May 15.
Patterson has partnered with the Book Industry Charitable Foundation (Binc) and the American Booksellers Association to promote the campaign. Patterson will call upon writers, readers, and book-lovers to contribute to #SaveIndieBookstores. The campaign will run through April 30, at which point Binc will distribute the total funds raised to eligible independent bookstores. For more information, visit SaveIndieBookstores.com.
