Booksellers have through Friday, February 2, to place their orders for exclusive, literary-themed items for this year’s celebration of Independent Bookstore Day (IBD), Saturday, April 28. Booksellers can view the catalog of limited-edition items and place orders on the Independent Bookstore Day website.

Booksellers can also buy IBD T-shirts and tote bags to promote Independent Bookstore Day.

When ordering IBD merchandise, booksellers should keep in mind the first annual Independent Bookstore Day window contest, which will award one winner $300. To enter, stores are invited to submit at least two good-quality photos of their store’s window promoting Independent Bookstore Day to [email protected] between April 1 and May 1.

All current brick-and-mortar bookstore members of a regional independent booksellers association are eligible to participate in Independent Bookstore Day. By ordering, each store is agreeing to the “Rules of Participation” listed on the order form.

Booksellers must order at least 15 pieces from the catalog, and all items are nonreturnable (IBD T-shirts and totes do not count toward this total). Orders will ship by April 15. Booksellers can use IBD items for display as soon as they are received, but no items may be sold in-store until April 28, the day of the event. Stores can sell remaining items on their own websites beginning May 8, but booksellers are asked not to sell the items on third-party websites.

Visit the Independent Bookstore Day website to learn more about the event; the “For the Trade” section includes a handy month-by-month planning guide, bookseller info and FAQs, and more. Questions about ordering or catalog items can be directed to IBD Program Director Samantha Schoech or NCIBA Administrator Ann Seaton.
