Here, the IndieCommerce team shares an important look at current trends in the world of e-commerce.

Sales have remained strong over the past seven days. The big factor has been the percentage of online customers who are completing purchases on IndieCommerce and IndieLite websites. This is called the e-commerce conversion rate (ECR), and we’ve never seen it this high, with 8.4 percent of customers completing an online purchase. This past Sunday, the ECR spiked to 11.06 percent, which is just amazing and indicates that indie bookstore customers are highly motivated to buy from store sites right now. Expect these high conversion rates to peak on Monday, December 14, and Tuesday, December 15.

Traffic has been high and steady over the past seven days, and this trend should continue through the week, with a slight rise going into the weekend that will peak on Monday and Tuesday.

Be sure to tell your customers that shipping times are getting backed up and tracking info is not updating as frequently as they may expect. In-store shopping, curbside pickup, or local delivery might be a better option for last-minute shoppers. If you offer these options, you might want to start pushing them to your customers now on social media, via email, and on your website.
