ChicoBag sells fun eco-friendly fabric bags that come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, and through the American Booksellers Association’s ChicoBag affinity program, member stores can order these unique and custom products at a discount.
Bookstores that sign up for the program can save five percent off their first order of standard ChicoBags and receive a free display in the bargain. The discount is even greater on orders of custom-printed bags. ChicoBags can be branded with a bookstore’s logo and/or slogan of choice, and stores participating in the affinity program will receive a 10 percent discount off the custom price on every order.
According to ChicoBag channel manager Crystal Viars, “Eat Sleep Read,” “Peace Love Books,” and “Snack Nap Read” have been the three slogans most requested by booksellers.
A small business, located in Chico, California, ChicoBag aims to reduce the number of single-use bags Americans throw away each year. It offers a variety of fabric options, including the ChicoBag rePETe, which is manufactured from 99 percent recycled content.
“ChicoBag has been working with ABA member stores since 2008 and considers the affinity program a successful partner program, which rewards everyone involved,” Viars said. “By aligning with indie booksellers, we’ve found a better way to deliver authentic, quality products to consumers who care about making a difference when they shop.”
Every bag, whether a full-size shopping bag, tote, or other bag style, is durable, machine washable, and comes with a manufacturer warranty. ChicoBags feature an attached carrying pouch with a carabineer that clips to a pocket, purse, or backpack so ChicoBags can go anywhere.
“ChicoBags are meaningful products that are made responsibly and genuinely help their customers,” Viars said. “Consumers shopping at their local indie bookstore have developed a relationship of trust with the bookstore, and we further strengthen that interaction with unique, quality products that complement their interests.”
Over the years, ABA has developed similar affinity partnerships with a number of vendors that offer discounted products, services, and business opportunities for member bookstores, including credit card processing company Bancard and used and rare books website Biblio.com.
