Campaigning for International Literacy

One Shared World, a campaign to raise awareness of global poverty and generate dialogue about solutions, is reaching out to booksellers in the Book Sense marketing program. The August Red Box includes a flier encouraging booksellers to mark International Literacy Day, on September 8, as the start of an effort to help customers "learn more, connect more, and do more about literacy, a path out of poverty."

The One Shared World "Education" web page urges readers to visit a bookstore or library to ask for books about development assistance and ending global poverty, and it offers several suggested titles.

For more ideas and to learn about free resources, One Shared World is asking independent booksellers to send an e-mail to [email protected].

The One Shared World campaign is a partnership of the American Association of University Women, American Women in Radio and Television, the National Association of Women Business Owners, the National Council of Negro Women, the U.S. Agency for International Development, and the Academy for Educational Development.
