Downloadable materials are now available for booksellers to help promote the September 25 kick-off of Penguin Random House’s Book the Vote campaign, a nonpartisan company-wide initiative to encourage voter registration and voter turnout during the 2018 midterm elections and beyond.

Book the Vote logoAs part of the campaign, which is powered by engagement from PRH employees and authors and which provides support for book retailers’ displays, community nights, and other get-out-the-vote initiatives, the publisher is partnering with HeadCount, a nonpartisan organization that has been registering Americans to vote at concerts, music festivals, and cultural events since 2004.

Headcount is also the co-creator of National Voter Registration Day, which takes place Tuesday, September 25. To mark this day and the program’s official kick-off, Book the Vote is encouraging authors, illustrators, booksellers, and readers to help spread the word on social media. To promote #BookTheVote on September 25, booksellers and readers can:

  • Add the Book the Vote logo to pictures
  • Use the #BookTheVote hashtag
  • Include the following link to get friends and followers registered to vote: bit.ly/BookTheVote

Booksellers can visit the Penguin Random House website to access Book the Vote Toolkit assets and Book the Vote social media assets to get involved with the campaign designed to increase voter turnout and registration this Election Day (Tuesday, November 6, 2018).

PRH’s bookseller toolkit includes a downloadable #BookTheVote poster for use at author events or elsewhere; suggestions and content for social media posts; and shelf-talkers, a one-sheet, and more for the forthcoming Glimmer of Hope: How Tragedy Sparked a Movement (Razorbill and Dutton Adult, October 16), written by the March for Our Lives movement’s founders, which inspired the #BookTheVote campaign.

Prior to the midterm elections, Penguin Random House and HeadCount will also be setting up voter registration drives at events with PRH authors including Hank Green and John Green, Jodi Picoult, Deborah Harkness, Marie Lu, DeRay Mckesson, Brad Meltzer, Chip Conley, and more.
