On July 9, the American Booksellers Association sent out a survey designed to collect specific demographic information from member booksellers. Responses are due by 11:59 p.m. ET on July 20.

The email with the link to the bookseller survey came from ABA CEO Allison Hill with the subject line “Today’s Update: Brief Survey.” Both booksellers and bookstore owners should fill out this survey.

The survey, as well as individual questions within it, are entirely optional. Questions included ask about preferred pronouns, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability status, and ethnicity. The survey is not anonymous.

Additionally, ABA sent a survey to store owners in order to collect a few pieces of financial information. The email with the link to the bookstore owner survey came from [email protected] with the subject line “Bookstore Owners Survey.”

This information in these surveys is being collected to help ABA better understand its membership and ensure appropriate representation of the membership is present across all facets of the association’s programming, services, committees, board, and education.

Booksellers who have questions about the survey or who need the survey link can email [email protected].
