This week, Book Sense and The History Channel present the Spring 2005 History Top Ten, which focuses on titles about President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and his era. The list is based on the nominations of independent booksellers nationwide and is the fifth time Book Sense has compiled a list in association with The History Channel.

This April will be the 10th annual National Poetry Month, and, to help booksellers prepare for the month-long celebration of verse, the Academy of American Poets (AAP), organizers of the annual event, have made numerous resources available on their website at www.poets.org.

This week Book Sense announces the 2005 Valentine's Day Top Ten. The list is produced in conjunction with the Association of American Publishers' (AAP) Get Caught Reading initiative. This is part of an ongoing initiative with AAP to create seasonal lists based on the nominations of independent booksellers nationwide. The next Book Sense and AAP Get Caught Reading list will be an Easter/Passover Top Ten.

Book Sense specialty bestseller lists provide great opportunities for booksellers to introduce their stores, and the Book Sense program, to consumers through their local media. Many newspapers and magazines feature specialty sections or inserts that are a perfect match for one or more of the lists, and often what is needed is to bring the availability of the lists to the publisher's attention weeks or months in advance.

Now that the presidential and vice-presidential debates are behind us and election day is less than two weeks away, all that's left to do is scrutinize and re-scrutinize the various shifting polls, bite your nails, rail to sympathetic ears or at unsympathetic ones, and read. Reading about the candidates, as the high number of political bestsellers shows, is how many are responding to a seemingly interminable wait until November 2.
