Rachel Ignotofsky, author of Women in Science: 50 Fearless Pioneers Who Changed the World, will deliver the closing keynote at next month’s Children’s Institute.

Booksellers can sign up now for the ABC Children’s Institute Advanced Education Session, “Idea Exchange for Owners and Managers,” and share their ideas for topics to discuss during the event.

More than 50 authors and illustrators will appear at next month’s ABC Children’s Institute over the course of two days of plenary sessions, featured talks, and special events.

With the 2017 ABC Children’s Institute just four weeks away, here are some important updates and reminders.

Voting opened on March 3 for the 10th annual Children’s & Teen Choice Book Awards, the national book awards program in which the winners are selected by children and teens of all ages.

Marley Dias, the 12-year-old social activist who launched the #1000BlackGirlBooks campaign, and Ilsa Govan, the founder of Cultures Connecting, have been added to the Children’s Institute lineup.

Just a few spots remain for booksellers looking to attend the 2017 ABC Children’s Institute. The event, to be held April 5–7 in Portland, Oregon, is open to all ABA member booksellers. 

Booksellers can sign up now and submit topics they wish to discuss at the April 7 Children’s Institute Advanced Education Session, “Idea Exchange for Owners and Managers.”

Thanks to the generosity of lead sponsor Baker & Taylor, 32 publisher sponsors, and the Book Industry Charitable Foundation, 47 booksellers will be attending Children’s Institute on scholarship.

Janet Webster Jones has grown Source Booksellers from a simple vendor table at area markets in 1989 into a beloved Detroit neighborhood institution with a strong focus on nonfiction books. 

At Wi12, bookseller panelists shared best practices for categorizing and shelving middle grade and young adult graphic novels, as well as how to sell the genre to parents, teachers, and young readers.

Booksellers have until March 1 to register to serve as an official event location for the 98th annual Children’s Book Week, which will take place May 1–7.
