BookSense.com to Hold a 'Poetry Slam' at BookExpo America

The oldest form of literature (verse) will meet one of the newest forms of bookselling (BookSense.com) at this year's BookExpo America (BEA).

On Saturday, May 31, from 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m., at BEA, BookSense.com will present its first-ever "Poetry Slam," a contest for aspiring poets to read and have their work judged by their peers for a chance to have a poem published on BookSense.com and in Bookselling This Week.

Correction

In the story entitled "ABA to Independents: Let's Be Counted" (March 18, 2003), BTW incorrectly reported on Nielsen BookScan data. BookScan reporting data does not represent between 70 and 80 percent of the independent bookstore market. Its data represents between 70 and 75 percent of the entire bookselling market.

Sanders' Bill to Amend Patriot Act Attracts Seven More Co-sponsors

Support for H.R. 1157, the Freedom to Read Protection Act, continues to grow. In the last week, seven more members of Congress became co-sponsors of the bill, which would remove a threat created by the USA Patriot Act to the privacy of bookstore and library records. They join Rep. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and 58 other members of Congress.
