An Important Reminder

Though this weekend is a holiday weekend, the deadline for reporting to the Book Sense Bestseller List remains the same. It is still Monday at 3:00 a.m. EST. (That's midnight PT.) It is crucial that everybody report this weekend, as these lists will be spotlighted to the entire bookselling and publishing community at BookExpo America next week.

There will be no Book Sense Bestseller lists for the week of June 2.

Book Industry Heads to L.A. for BookExpo America

A week from today, on Thursday, May 29, educational programs and special events will be in full swing at this year's BookExpo America, at the Los Angeles Convention Center from May 28 - June 1. Commenting on expected attendance at the show, Greg Topalian, show manager of BookExpo America, said, "We're thrilled with our pre-registration numbers, which look very strong compared with previous years."

Government Drops Attempt to Incarcerate Witness for Telling His Story in a New Book

In a decision that the Authors Guild, American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression (ABFFE), and Association of American Publishers (AAP) hailed as a victory for free expression, Assistant U.S. Attorney David C. Esseks dropped an attempt to jail a cooperating witness who shared his story in a recently published book. "We're very happy with [the decision], it's a great result," said Paul Aiken, executive director of the Authors Guild. "This time the law worked the way it ought to."
