Barefoot Books Fills Shoes With Champagne for 10th Anniversary

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Book Sense publisher partner and children's book publisher, Barefoot Books, the homegrown project of two mothers, Tessa Strickland and Nancy Traversy. With previous careers in publishing and management consulting, respectively, the two founded the company in the U.K. in 1993, publishing 10 cross-cultural picture books with no other staff.

Prairie Lights Shines for 25 Years

A recent study conducted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics declared San Francisco as the leader in book sales per capita. The San Francisco Chronicle quoted a San Francisco bookseller as saying she sold architecture and fine cookbooks but couldn't make a living selling cheap romance novels. "You could do that in the Midwest," she said. Jim Harris, owner of Prairie Lights in Iowa, might disagree.
