North Carolina Forum Postponed Due to Weather

The ABA Booksellers Forum scheduled for Wednesday, January 28, at McIntyre's Fine Books in Pittsboro, North Carolina, was cancelled due to snowy weather conditions up and down the East Coast. "The location of the forum required that booksellers would have to drive, and given the icy weather conditions blanketing the area, we reluctantly decided to cancel the forum and plan to reschedule sometime in the spring," said ABA COO Oren Teicher.

ABA Booksellers Forums -- California Here We Come

ABA's Booksellers Forum tour heads to California in February. The first of three forums will be held in conjunction with the Northern California Independent Booksellers Association (NCIBA) at its offices in The Presidio in San Francisco on Wednesday, February 18. This will be followed by forums at Vroman's Bookstore in Pasadena on Friday, February 20, and at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in San Diego on Saturday, February 21, both in conjunction with the Southern California Booksellers Association (SCBA).

Fraudulent Orders From Africa a Continuing Problem

ABA reminds booksellers to beware of orders for large numbers of medical books, textbooks, or bibles that originate in Nigeria or other African nations. The association continues to receive reports from booksellers across the country who have received fraudulent orders via telephone and telephone relay systems developed for use by the hearing impaired; through the mail, accompanied by a check for several thousand dollars; or via e-mails and orders placed through a store's online shopping cart.
