ABFFE Online Auction Adds Items From BEA

The American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression (ABFFE) has announced that a wealth of items donated by publishers during BookExpo America is being added to the online auction that is currently underway at www.abffe.org. "We are adding the new items to the website just as fast as we can," said Caitlin Delohery, ABFFE's auction manager.

In Defense of Independent Businesses

Elaine and Bill Petrocelli, the owners of Book Passage in Corte Madera and San Francisco, most recently made the news with the announcement, on May 24 in California's Marin Independent Journal, that they plan to open a third store in Novato, California. However, since January, the Petrocellis and Book Passage have been in the news for another reason.

High Marks for Education at a Productive BEA

The venue was new, but many familiar faces were traversing the multilevel Washington Convention Center from Thursday to Sunday throughout last week's BookExpo America. This year, 573 ABA member stores were preregistered for the show, representing approximately one-third of all member bookstores, making this the largest percentage of total membership at the trade show in recent memory.

ABA Launches Videos of Educational Programs Online

This week, ABA announced the launch of "ABA Education Programs Online," a new benefit that provides ABA members with access to streaming video of ABA educational programming. By simply clicking on the "Professional Development" link on the BookWeb homepage, members can access ABA education programs, including "The 2% Solution," complete with videotaped presenters and PowerPoint slides.
