Bookstore Leads Way to Downtown Revitalization



Ann Burlingham is a small-town bookseller with big ideas. Her eponymous Burlingham Books opened on January 31 in Perry, New York, and celebrated its grand opening on June 17. Open seven days a week, and until 11:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights, the store features live music and the only public changing table in town. And Burlingham has many more ideas about how to make the store a destination.

Library of Congress Invites Booklovers to Sixth National Book Festival

The sixth annual National Book Festival, organized and sponsored by the Library of Congress and hosted by First Lady Laura Bush, will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The festival is free and open to the public.

Registration Open for Prospective Booksellers School



"Opening a Bookstore: The Business Essentials," a weeklong workshop for those interested in opening, buying, or investing in a bookstore, will be held from October 3 - 9 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Donna Paz Kaufman and Mark Kaufman of the bookstore training and consulting group of Paz & Associates will facilitate the program, which covers everything from defining and marketing a store's competitive advantages to understanding financial dynamics, store design and merchandising to selecting a computerized management system and selecting an opening inventory.
